Why Not Just Write It Yourself?

You could. But here's what most people get wrong:

Wrong statute citation. Every state has a different code section. Citing the wrong one (or none at all) signals you don't know the law. Landlords ignore those letters.
Missed deadline language. Your state gives the landlord a specific number of days. If your letter doesn't reference that deadline, there's no urgency to respond.
No penalty language. Many states impose double or triple damages for bad-faith withholding. If you don't mention the penalty, the landlord has no reason to fear your letter.
Weak formatting. A demand letter on a plain email or notebook paper doesn't convey authority. A properly formatted PDF with legal citations does.

What Your Letter Includes

Every letter is built from your state's actual statute.

Exact Statute Citation

Your state's security deposit code section, referenced by number, so the landlord knows you've done your homework.

Return Deadline

The specific number of days your state allows for deposit return, calculated from your move-out date.

Penalty Warning

If your state imposes double/triple damages or attorney's fees for bad-faith withholding, we cite it.
